St.
James Infirmary blues
It
was down in old Joe's barroom on the corner by the square.
The
drinks was served us usual and the usual crowd was there.
Now
on my left stood big Joe McKennedy and his eyes were bloodshot red.
And
he looked at the gang around him and these were the very words he said:
I
went down to St. James Infirmary, see my baby there.
She
was stretched out on a long white table, so sweet, so cold, so bare.
Let
her go, let her go God bless her wherever she may be.
She
can look this wide world over and never find another sweet man like me.
Now
when I die you can bury me in a straight laced shoes, boxback coat and Stetson
hat.
put
a twenty dollar gold peace on my watch-chain, so the boys ‘ll know I died
standing pat.
